A 17-0 run to begin the game was all Winterset needed as the Huskies pulled away from Knoxville and won 83-37 in the first round of the class 3A boys sub state. The Panthers at the outset was unable to handle Winterset’s one/two/two pressure defense and committed 16 first half turnovers to get down big early. A better 2nd quarter closed the gap to 23 at the halftime break, but Winterset finished off the Panthers with a 24-12 3rd quarter and invoke running clock the rest of the way. Panthers Coach Troy Pearson told KNIA/KRLS Sports while his team did a lot of things wrong, he was happy with the overall effort.

Pearson: “We seemed to settle a bit in the second quarter, we seemed to settle down a bit then, and while we did a lot of things wrong, I can’t fault our effort.”

Connor Willis scored ten points to lead Knoxville who finishes the season 5-17 and graduates three seniors.
