A fundraiser has started to support the more than 200 Marching Dutch students and their families making a trip to the prestigious Tournament of Roses parade this upcoming winter.
The Pella Athletic Booster Club has organized a GoFundMe page, with tax-deductible donations being accepted to offset costs associated with the six-day trip December 28th, 2022 through January 3rd, 2023.
The goal is to raise $100,000 dollars, as the individual student trip price is just under $3,000, and the goal to reduce the cost of this trip by nearly 1/2 for each student.
The Marching Dutch were one of five bands selected from across the United States to march in the parade before the Rose Bowl. Director Dameon Place says they have been honored to perform every four years in parades at college bowl games across the nation, but the Rose Bowl is among the highest honors a high school band can achieve. This is the third time Pella has been chosen (1988, 2003), and they are the first band in Iowa to participate three times.
