Employees of the Pella Community School District will see an increase in their health insurance rate for the first time in four years following a report and action taken at the Pella School Board meeting this week. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says a three percent increase was approved after costs for the district’s self-insurance plan rose by nearly 10 percent. Ebeling says the district was able to absorb the cost due to the general health of the district’s fund balance in their self-insurance policy, and over the course of several years, they’ve been able to keep costs down where other districts may have had challenges in more traditional health care benefits.
