PCM’s boys’ basketball squad had 14 wins this season, but their final win of the year was in the second round of the playoffs against Pleasantville.
The Mustangs came into their matchup fresh off of a dominating first-round victory over Chariton earlier that week and knew that the Trojans would be a tough team to compete against. PCM got off to a fast start and never looked back, holding Pleasantville star Mason Scheve to no points. A combination of key three-pointers from Carson Vandelune and transition baskets from Durant Van Dyke catapulted PCM to a 33-14 lead at the half.
PCM never looked back, coming away with a 64-51 victory over Pleasantville to move on to their second consecutive district final. Van Dyke led the way for the Mustangs, finishing with 23 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, and five steals. Vandelune led the way in scoring for PCM, knocking in 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting.
The Mustangs would unfortunately lose to Des Moines Christian in the district final, but the 14 wins is the most in a season by PCM since a 16-win season in 2017-18.
