
The deadly tornadoes impacting south central Iowa have been surveyed by the National Weather Service. The storm that tore through Winterset, Norwalk, and Newton was rated as EF-4 with peak winds at 170 MPH, and was on the ground for nearly 70 miles. That tornado prompted KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team coverage on Saturday. Another deadly tornado spawned near Chariton was on the ground for 16 miles and rated as EF-3, with peak winds at 138 MPH. That storm prompted a warning in southeast Marion County for radar indicated rotation later and restarted KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team coverage.
