The application process for the newly created Indianola Downtown Square Commission has been extended to March 30th. A new commission that will assist and make recommendations to the Indianola City Council regarding square activities and regulations. Interim City Manager Charlie Dissell (diss-ell) tells KNIA News the council will begin to look at applications in April.

“We are now looking to have the third consideration of the ordinance in the meeting on March 21st, and we will continue to accept applications. So then at the next meeting on April 7th, the council will do their first review of applicants. So, to be considered in those applications for the first round, we ask that you have that in by March 30th.”

The commission will consist of nine members, with the initial members being appointed to staggered terms of one, two, and three years, eventually leading to three-year terms for all members. To be on the commission, you are required to either own property within the square area, own a business within the square area, or reside within the square area, but you are not required to be a city resident.
