Due to the rising gas prices, Knoxville high school band students received a letter this week about an additional charge for their spring break visit to Florida. Knoxville high school Director of Bands MeredithTipping spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the charge.
“As a part of our budget and our trip package that we put together, it does include our fuel costs to take our charter buses down to Florida. The recent spike in gas prices affected our trip and we were going to have an extra charge of $37.50 for our trip because of those prices. Students and anyone that is going on the trip were going to have to absorb that cost and to pay a little more to go on the trip.”
The band received some good news before the trip.
“We had a very generous donor that came forward and offered to cover the cost for everybody so our families did not have to pay any more to go onto the trip.”
The students will spend four days in Florida that will include a workshop with Disney musicians where the band will record a soundtrack for a clip of a Disney film.
