The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report showed quick improvement locally after last weekend’s severe weather and Monday’s snow.

According to the National Weather Service, Marion County northeast of the Des Moines River and Lake Red Rock remained abnormally dry — those areas received rainfall last Saturday before the worst of the storm activity and approximately five inches of snow early this week.

The cutoff for the weekly report is Tuesday morning, so the additional inch or so of snow recorded Thursday were not included.

Much warmer conditions return starting Sunday, which kicks off a week of highs in the 50s and 60s. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
