Defense was Norwalk’s boys’ soccer squad’s identity in 2021, but the main focus will be scoring more this season.

The Warriors finished with a 9-8 overall record and a 5-1 record in Little Hawkeye Conference play, with their lone loss coming to conference champion Dallas Center-Grimes. Norwalk returns their top two goal-scorers from 2021 in Spencer Taylor and Jack Brown. The Warriors will also be returning goalkeeper Kegan Trebilcock and Dalton Stoffel. In 17 games last year, Norwalk scored multiple goals in just seven games. The Warriors in those games went 6-1, with their lone loss coming to Ankeny. Coach Dustin Kralik says that despite his team’s stellar defense, offense will be the primary focus of improvement for his squad.

“It’s really about scoring goals this year. We are organized and we can defend with anybody. We don’t expect to have a glowing record just because of how we schedule. We’re gonna play most of the top teams 3A so we know we are going to be challenged. We want to expose ourselves and fix what we need for the postseason.”

Norwalk’s season gets underway March 29 at Dowling Catholic.
