The Marion County Roads Department has started their spring work. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian tells KNIA/KRLS News how the department transitions from winter to spring.

“Around  March 1 we start our granular surfacing of the gravel roads so we start hauling rock with six trucks and we will do that around 12 to 13 weeks. As frost comes out of the ground and roads thaw we will begin blading roads when we can as the roads may be soft so we will use different trucks than the six that are being used to haul repair rock for those roads.”

Christian talks about upcoming projects for the department.

“Through the winter we have been building a bridge with a contractor, they started in late December and probably in the next couple of weeks the deck will be ready to pour, which will be our first major concrete pour, which will put us ahead of schedule on that project. Over the next month or two that bridge will be completed and hopefully we can get the road back open, which is Story Drive north of Highway G76. Other than that we don’t have any major projects for the spring as those projects are out to bid and those would be summer or early fall projects with the exception of G76 in Attica, which will be late spring early summer. The project will be reconstruction of the four way intersection in Attica of G76 and some overlay within the town.”

The project is estimated to take a month to complete and the road would be closed for around two weeks.
