Former Knoxville Football Coach Marv Sloan passed away recently. Sloan, a native from Monroe graduated from Monroe High School and Iowa Teachers College, now known as University of Northern Iowa. Sloan coached football and other sports at several schools around Iowa including Clinton, South Winneshiek, Pella, and Knoxville. While at Knoxville he was head football coach from 1971-1976 winning three South Central Conference titles, and compiling a 35-16 record with the Panthers including the 1975 undefeated season that resulted in a number two ranking. Sloan was inducted in the Knoxville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010 and the 1975 team was inducted in 2013. Memorial services will be held Friday at 10:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Sloan was 86 years old.
