When it comes to severe weather, local 911 call centers would like to remind residents both of when and how to report damage as part of Iowa Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Pella Administrative Services Manager Marcia Slycord encourages the public to prioritize their calls when contacting their local police department during a severe weather event.

Slycord asks the public to avoid calling in for minor damage while a storm is happening to allow lines to stay open for medical emergencies. She says to send major damage reports to their office and the National Weather Service after the storm is over.
