The Simpson baseball team could not hold on to a lead going into the ninth inning to begin their American Rivers Conference schedule, falling to the Spartans of Dubuque on the road in walkoff fashion 8-7.
The Storm gave up four runs in the bottom of the second to trail 5-1, but immediately answered with four runs in the top of the third to tie the score at 5 all, and taking a 6-5 lead after earning a run in the fourth. The Spartans tied the score in the seventh, but Simpson came back in the top of the eighth to lead 7-6, holding that lead to the bottom of the ninth where the Spartans scored on a Simpson error to win.
The Storm fall to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play, and will play a rescheduled doubleheader with the Spartans on Sunday to round out the road trip.
