The Pella Marching Dutch are gearing up for a trip to the “Granddaddy of Them All” at the end of this calendar year, and they are asking for support for the special performance.
Director of the Marching Dutch Dameon Place says the band community is seeking monetary donations to help offset costs for the 210 members of the group traveling to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.
Place says earning a bid to the Rose Parade is the pinnacle of achievement for high school marching bands around the world, and he’s hopeful to generate support from within the community and outside of Pella to make it possible.
On Saturday, April 9th, the Pella Marching Dutch will be hosting a telethon fundraiser to collect monetary donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio will be at the event at the east entrance of Pella High School to feature members of the band, local fundraising committee, and music instructors.
The Marching Dutch were one of five bands selected from across the United States to march in the Rose Parade. This is the third time Pella has been chosen (1988, 2003), and they are the first band in Iowa to participate three times.
