The Warren County Democratic Party held their annual soup supper Monday evening, welcoming local and statewide candidates to speak and meet with voters. Governor candidate Deidre Dejear tells KNIA News one of the reasons she is running is to repair Iowa’s education system that has been neglected.

“The number one thing that I often bring up is our education system. We have to remind ourselves that this was a state that was number one in education, now we are falling further and further down the list and we know that’s not where Iowa belongs. So I’m of the mindset of let’s interrupt that now, get new leadership, and that leadership will lead us towards a more prosperous future for everyone in the state.”

Warren County Supervisor District 2 Candidate Alphonsa Valenzuela-Gumucio said his inspiration for running was he loves being part of the community, and wants to preserve what we currently have in the area.

“I love my community, I love my neighbors, I love my area. I am the chair of the Historical Preservation Commission for Warren County, and I have a passion for old. I think we have beautiful stuff and we are old here, and a lot of towns need a lot of love here. So that’s my initial way I started working here in the county.”

Valenzuela-Gumucia also said he is a candidate that will always tell the truth, even if the truth is not pleasant to hear. The candidates will be featured on an upcoming Let’s Talk Indianola.
