Simpson’s softball squad opened American Rivers Conference play with a doubleheader split at Central, which was broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.
The Storm started off the day with a tough game defensively, losing 7-4 to the Dutch. Megan Crockett led the way for Simpson, starting the game off with a three-run home run in the first, but the Storm were stagnant the rest of the way. Taryan Barrick-Wessels got the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts. Barrick-Wessels’ record now stands at 8-3.
The Storm ended the day with the first win in American Rivers Conference play, winning 5-1 over Central. Randie Richmond excelled on the mound, pitching a complete game and giving up one run on five hits. Maddie Luderman and Karlie Hill each had two RBIs on the day, with Luderman hitting a two-run homer in the seventh. With the split, Simpson currently stands at 16-7 on the season and 1-1 in American Rivers Conference play.
Simpson will have a quick turnaround and long road trip as they travel to #23 Loras College for their second conference doubleheader of the season. The doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 PM and will be broadcast on 94.3 KNIA with Alex Koch on the call.
