Knoxville was 4th in the large school division and Pleasantville was 4th in the small school division at the DeWitt relays at Clarke High School on Friday night as both teams finally opened their seasons after several weather delays this week. The Panthers earned three-1st place finishes with Natalie Collins winning the 1500 in a time of 5:53.65 while Knoxville dominated the throwing events with Ashlyn Finarty winning the shot put with a throw 36 feet 7.25 inches, and teammate Ciara Heffron taking 1st in the discus with the toss of 120 feet eight inches. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the early season will be spent getting a baseline of what his team can do against the conference and other teams they may see at the State Qualifier.
Splavec: “Sizing up competition and seeing where we are and with some conference schools. We’ll see Davis County, they’re the odds on favorite to win the conference, but also against Albia, Centerville and Chariton and see where we land.”
The Trojans got one-1st place medal in the 4×100 meter relay team of Sophia Mason, Ella Clarke, Rayne Olson, and Kennedy Pelzer ran a time of 1:16.58. Full results are on kniakrls.com. Knoxville heads to PCM on Tuesday while Pleasantville will run at the Lynnville-Sully Relays also on Tuesday.
