Both Norwalk Track Squads Go On the Road

Norwalk’s track and field squads will go on the road this afternoon as they continue to get their season underway.

The Warriors’ girls will have their first meet of the season after having their first three outdoor meets of the year canceled. Norwalk will travel to Waukee for their first outdoor meet of the season. The Warriors had their meets at Simpson College, Iowa City West, and Ballard all postponed or canceled due to inclement weather. Norwalk will compete with the host, Ankeny, Des Moines Roosevelt, Dowling Catholic, Iowa City High, and Marshalltown at the Waukee Girls Invite. The meet at Waukee High School begins at 4:00 PM.

The Warriors’ boys will have their second outdoor meet of the season at ADM. Norwalk competed in their first meet at Winterset Friday and finished fourth overall behind the host, North Polk, and Underwood. The Warriors had two first place finishes in the distance medley and 3200 meter run from Will Chase. Norwalk will compete with the host, Carlisle, Clarke, Dallas Center-Grimes, Nevada, Van Meter, and Winterset. The meet at ADM High School begins at 4:30 PM.

Norwalk Tennis Begins Little Hawkeye Conference Play Against Oskaloosa

(Update: Matches have been canceled)

Both of Norwalk’s tennis teams will get Little Hawkeye Conference play underway today against Oskaloosa.

The Warriors’ boys will have their first meet of the season after having their opening meet against Ankeny Centennial postponed due to court maintenance. Norwalk will have a few experienced underclassmen on the squad this year as Hayden Steele and Adrian Bush are expected to be key contributors. In last year’s match, Norwalk defeated Oskaloosa on the road, 8-3.

The Warriors’ girls will look to get their second win of the season at Oskaloosa. Norwalk opened the year with a dominating 9-0 shutout victory of Knoxville last Tuesday. The Warriors got wins in every singles and doubles match and looks to continue their dominance as the Little Hawkeye Conference season begins. Coach Kristin Geisler tells KNIA Sports that she is looking for her team to improve on doubles matches in their first conference matchup.

“We’re just going to continue to go out, work hard, work on the little things. We’ll just continue to work on doubles. We’ll continue to work on those areas and keep battling every meet.”

Oskaloosa defeated Norwalk in last year’s match between the two schools, 6-5.

Both matches get underway at 4:15 PM.

Norwalk Girls Golf Goes to Perry For First Road Meet of the Season

Norwalk’s girls’ golf squad will have their first road meet of the season this afternoon as they travel to Perry.

The Warriors are coming off finishing first in their home invitational Saturday competing with Carlisle, Bondurant-Farrar, Des Moines East, and Des Moines Lincoln. Norwalk had two of the three low golfers in the meet with Emily Juergens tying for first and Ruby Hoch finishing third. This meet will be a triangular at the Perry Country Club with the host and Ballard. The Warriors competed against both teams last season and came out in first.

The meet at the Perry Country Club gets underway at 4:00 PM.

Norwalk Soccer Has First Home Matches of the Season

Norwalk’s soccer squads will have their first home matches of the season tonight in a doubleheader against Ames.

The Warriors’ girls are currently ranked No. 1 in Class 2A and began the season with three consecutive victories. Norwalk began their season with victories over ADM, Pella Christian, and 11th-ranked Bondurant-Farrar. The Warriors have outscored their opponents 16-1 thus far this season, including scoring eight against Pella Christian last Thursday. Norwalk will be looking for their first victory in the Varsity Bound era against Ames, including losing 1-0 to them last year.

The Warriors’ boys will be looking for their first win of the season after dropping their opening match at Dowling Catholic last Tuesday, 4-2. Norwalk got goals in their first match from Izec Dingman and Caden Endres. The Warriors have been a common non-conference foe against Ames, as this will mark the 11th time the two teams have squared up in the last 12 seasons. Norwalk came away with the victory last year, 2-1.

The doubleheader at Norwalk High School gets underway with the girls’ match starting at 5:30 PM.
