The Warriors had three first-place finishes in the meet. Claire Farrell continued her incredible stretch, placing first in the 100 and 400 meter dashes. With finishing first in the 100 meter dash, Farrell made the Drake Relays Blue Standard. It is the second time this season Farrell has qualified for the Drake Relays this season. The Warriors’ boys placed third overall at the Hugh Norman Relays at ADM Tuesday. Norwalk had two first place finishes and set a meet record in one event. In the 110 meter hurdles, Grant MIller placed first with a time of 15.64 seconds. In the final event of the night, the Warriors’ 4×400 meter relay team of Jacey Hutson, Dillon Ranck, Skyler Olson, and Ben Hanson set a meet record with a time of 3:33.49.

Norwalk Girls Golf Edges Out Ballard in Perry Quad

Norwalk’s girls’ golf squad squeaked out a first-place finish at Perry Quad Tuesday, edging out Ballard.

The Warriors finished with a team score of 226, one stroke lower than Ballard. Emily Juergens finished as the low golfer for Norwalk, placing third overall with a score of 53. Emma Tomlinson finished right behind Juergens and placed fourth overall with a score of 56. Norwalk battled 45 mile-per-hour winds and rain to come out first for their second consecutive invite.

Norwalk will be back on the course Thursday for an invitational at the Westwood Golf Course in Newton.

Norwalk Soccer Splits With Ames in First Home Match

Norwalk’s soccer squads came away with a split in their home doubleheader against Ames Tuesday.

The No. 1 in Class 2A Warriors’ girls dominated wire-to-wire in their first home match of the season, defeating the No. 11 in Class 3A Little Cyclones, 6-1. Norwalk continues their dominant beginning to the season, putting up six goals or more in their third match this season. Five different Warriors scored goals. Braelyn Clark scored two while Marin Randall, JoJo Bice, Reagan Holtorf, and Addison Burch all had one. Regan Teut had three assists as the Warriors improved to 4-0 on the season. Girls Coach Andrew Messer tells KNIA Sports that he believes the team’s close victory over Bondurant-Farrar Friday got them prepared for their match Tuesday.

“I just liked how everybody was playing. We had a close game against Bondurant. They played tough against us and I think that game got us ready for this.”

The Warriors’ boys dropped to 0-2 on the season, losing by penalty kicks to the Little Cyclones. Norwalk fought hard in a defensive slugfest, as the game was held scoreless through 100 minutes. However, in the penalty kick round, Ames outscored Norwalk 4-2. In a game that was defensive and chippy, the Warriors came out on the wrong side of the result.

Both teams will be back in action Friday as the girls will be at home against Des Moines Lincoln, while the boys will travel to Ankeny Centennial.
