The Pella City Council held a public hearing to approve a contract for reconstruction of University Street and East 8th north of Caldwell Park Tuesday evening. Work will begin immediately after Tulip Time with Blommers Construction to rebuild the stretch of road and complete the intersection before classes resume in the fall. The contract came in at $986,390 — nearly $70,000 above the engineer’s estimate — but rebidding was unlikely to lower the cost, according to city staff.

The council also held a public hearing and approved the furnishing 15 kV medium voltage power cable, resolutions for special event permits related to Tulip Time and the Pella Farmer’s Market, a conditional resolution of support for the transfer of Pella Community Ambulance assets to the City of Pella, and scheduled a public hearing to award a contract for a fuel oil storage tank enclosure at the Diesel Power Plant to make it available for year-round use. A preliminary plat for the Dingeman expansion at West 12th Street was tabled.
