For some track and field athletes, it’s been a long wait to compete as the topsy-turvy spring time weather has cancelled several meets in the first three weeks of the spring season. Depsite winds that howled consistently above 30-40 MPH Tuesday, warm air greeted the competitors at the Pella Christian Co-Ed Invitational on Eagle Lane Tuesday.

Pella’s boys won the meet while the Dutch girls placed 2nd as both battled with ADM; the Eagles boys placed 3rd at their home invite while the girls earned a 6th place finish. Area teams PCM (girls 5th, boys 7th) and Pleasantville (boys 5th, girls 7th) also competed.

Jacie Trine won both the open 200 (27.41) and 400 meter races (1:01.15) for the Dutch, Calla Kerndt (13.6) placed 1st in the 100 meters, and Raegan Snieder raced to the front of the 800 (2:34.07) and 3000 meter (11:36.18) races for the Pella girls. Their 4×800 relay (Abby Teagarden, Macy Schroeder, Abbey Bogaards, Tess Paulsen) and sprint medley relays (Emily McMartin, Calla Kerndt, Delanie Reynolds, Jacie Trine) also were victorious.

The Dutch boys had several top finishes, including:
Nolan Clayberg – 110 hurdles (15.83); Chase Lauman – 1600 meters (4:37.87), Josiah Wittenberg – 3200 meters (10:04.62), Gage Huyser – 400 hurdles (56.20); Brandon Fischer – discus (151-03) and shot put (50-05.50), CJ Shetterly – long jump (21-3)

Their 4×200 (Jrake Van Hemert, Caleb Briggs, CJ Shetterly, Blake Meyer), 4×400 (Reece Thoreson, Trey Van Hauen, Kenson Fuller, Karl Miller), 4×800 (Trey Van Hauen, Atticus Vos, Akira Lopez, Wyatt Van Dyke), Shuttle Hurdle (
Nolan Clayberg, Luke Fairchild, Cor Huyser, Gage Huyser), Sprint Medley (Noah Allen, Aidan Pollock, Caleb Briggs, Jrake Van Hemert) and Distance Medley Relays (Kenson Fuller, Quinn Gruver, Karl Miller, Chase Lauman) all placed 1st.

Levi Schelhaas of the Pella Christian boys went below 50 seconds to win the 400 meter dash (49.78) and placed 2nd in the 200 meters. Trevor Veenstra placed 3rd in the shot put (46-02.00) and Drew Geetings tied for 2nd in the high jump (5-10). The Eagles’ 4×100 relay (Drew Geetings, Luke Nikkel, Daniel Andringa, Levi Schelhaas) placed 2nd as well to ADM.

The P.C. girls were led by a 2nd place finish in the 400 meter hurdles from Addison Bandstra and a 3rd place high jump from Cara Veenstra (5-02.00).
