Work on involving Iowa farmers in battling climate change is currently taking place in the US Congress, including renewable energy and modern farming techniques that can be more beneficial to farmers. Congresswoman Cindy Axne says one of the issues she feels strongly about is allocating funds for soil health and sustainable farming.
“I think we will heavily look at sustainability which protects our environment, but as I would say also puts money in the pockets of farmers. If you have less input, because you have better soil, less input needed, you are putting money in your pocket. So these things run in tandem, and I hope that we see everybody in the ag committee understand that you can look at sustainability and fix it, and also really help farmers bring in more revenue. So I’m hoping we get there and push for those issues.”
Congresswoman Axne also said improving soil health is a long term investment in Iowa, as it helps our kids and families grow up with more food security coming right from the land in Iowa and benefits everyone.
