Six Panther sports squads were in action on Thursday night in another busy day of sports.
Boys Golf 3rd At Pella, Girls 11th At Oskaloosa
Boys golf went to Bos Landen and placed 3rd in their most challenging meet of the season to Pella and Defending Class 3A Champion Gilbert. The Tigers won going away posting a 306 to Pella’s 320 and Knoxville shot a 340. The Panthers were led by Beau Leisure shooting a 78 on the day. The girls were also at their most challenging meet of the season at Oskaloosa placing 11th out of 12 teams shooting a 481 with Faith Roozeboom leading the way with an 89. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he sees progress with the girls every time they step on the course.
Smith: “I put on a Facebook post the other day, it’s baby steps and it really is, and they’re trying, we have to keep improving.”
The girls head to Chariton for an invitational on Monday while the boys are at Honey Creek resort on Tuesday.
Knoxville Tennis Squads Sweep Davis County With Two Wins
For the first time this season, Knoxville pulled off two wins in tennis dual meets as the boys beat Davis County 5-4 and the girls prevailed 6-3. The boys, playing at the Joel Tonda Tennis Complex in Knoxville saw Joe Ferguson, Konner Leslie, and Eli Bumgardner win in singles. The Panthers took 2/3 doubles matches. For the girls it was Olivia Maasdam, Jadyn Streigle, Kate Schneider, and Riley Dailey getting singles wins and taking 2/3 doubles matches. The girls will host their own invitational, weather pending today at 4:00. The boys will head to the Atlantic Invitational on Saturday.

Knoxville Boys Track 5th, Girls 7th at Demon Relays
It was a bountiful night in Washington at the Demon Relays for the Knoxville Track and Field Squads. The boys placed 5th with the girls in 7th. Girls Coach Michael Splavec told KNIA/KRLS Sports his team is making progress and is looking forward to resting up for the weekend. Boys Coach Eric Kellar rested a couple of his main guys nursing injuries but others came in and stepped up. See official results on kniakrls.com.
