Pella Christian Girls Soccer Dominates Chariton
After picking up their first conference win of the year earlier this week, the Pella Christian girls soccer team dominated Chariton 9-0 Thursday.
The Eagles got off to a quick start as Esther Ford found Joslyn Terpstra five minutes into the game for the first goal of the game. Five minutes later Terpstra found Marina DeCampo for Pella Christian’s second goal. DeCampo then found Dani Roose ten minutes later to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead, which they would take into the end of the halftime break. In the second half, it was all Pella Christian. Terpstra assisted Sarah Gritters first goal of the season in the first minute of the half. A minute later, Decampo netted her second goal of the evening, followed by Terpstra’s second goal of the night two minutes afterwards. At the 46-minute mark, Annika Van Dyke found the net for her first goal of the season, to push the Eagles lead to 7-0. After a Chariton own goal at the 55-minute mark made it 8-0, Terpstra completed the hat trick with the final goal of the night with 15 minutes left in the match. After Pella Christian’s second consecutive shutout victory, Head Coach Mike Buchheit tells KRLS Sports that his squad is putting the pieces together at the right time.
“We’re capable of putting 11 really good players on the field. We’re capable of shutting teams out, which we’ve now done for the last 160 minutes of varsity time. And we’re starting to put the ball in the back of the net as well, which we’ve been working a lot on, and it really sets the table for us next week against DCG.”
Pella Christian extended their winning streak against Chariton to five straight and their record this season improved 3-3 this spring. The Eagles next match will be a tough test on the road, when they take on Class 2A’s #2 ranked undefeated Dallas Center-Grimes squad in a Little Hawkeye Conference showdown.
