The Simpson baseball team competed well with one of the top teams in the American Rivers Conference over the weekend, but dropped the series against the Knights of Wartburg two games to one. Simpson lost game one 9-2 after falling behind 6-0 through the sixth inning and only mustering four hits in the contest.

Going into the doubleheader on Saturday, the Storm dropped game two of the series 10-4 after giving up a four-run third inning, then after battling back to cut the lead in half going into the eighth, the Knights dropped six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they wouldn’t give up.

The Storm won the series finale to salvage the weekend 6-5. Simpson fell behind again early 3-1 through the fifth inning, then got a run back in the sixth to get it down to a one-run contest, before Wartburg scored three more in the seventh to get up 5-2 and hungry for a sweep. The Storm got four runs in the eighth however, getting hits from Kolton Arnold and Matthew Marquez among others to claim the win.

The Storm are now 16-16 overall and 7-11 in ARC play, and host Luther for a three-game series beginning Friday.
