Pella Christian Boys Tennis Wins Fifth Straight, Girls Tennis Falls to Norwalk

The Pella Christian boys tennis squad defeated Centerville 7-2 on the road to grab their fifth straight win, while the #9 ranked Eagles girls tennis team lost 9-2 to Norwalk on Thursday.

At Centerville, the Pella Christian boys tennis team won four out of the six singles matches and swept doubles play to down the Big Reds. At #1 in singles play Alejo Marcon swept his opponent, and Shaun Oosterheert missed a sweep by a set in the #5 spot in the lineup. Toby Vander Molen was an 8-3 winner at #4 in singles and Tristan Oosterheert was a 9-7 winner at #6. The Eagles are now 5-2 this season and will wrap up the regular season on Monday with a rescheduled match with Pella at 4:15 p.m. on Eagle Lane.

Pella Christian’s girls tennis team couldn’t snap their losing streak against Norwalk. The Eagles were swept in singles play, before grabbing their two victories in doubles action. At #1 in doubles play Katy Roose and Claire Vander Molen were 6-2, 6-3 winners. Grabbing the other win was Laurey Johnson and Reagan DeVries in the #3 doubles spot, as they won 6-3, 6-2. Despite falling in the last few matches, Head Coach Danielle Stubbs has been impressed with the squad’s improvement as many girls made big jumps in the lineup this season.

“We have so many girls who have moved up and it is a big change and challenge for them moving up and they’re embracing it, they’re eager to learn, and they’ve made so much headway and so much improvement.” 

The Eagles girls tennis squad is now 4-3 on the spring and 2-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and will look to get back on track Monday in a rescheduled match at Caldwell Park with Pella at 4:15 p.m.

Pella Christian Boys Soccer Snaps Losing Streak at Sigourney-Keota

The Eagles boys soccer team put an end to their five match losing streak on the road Thursday with a 6-1 victory over Sigourney-Keota.

Pella Christian utilized the advantage they held in time of possession to grab a 4-1 lead at the end of the first half. Theo Hugen and Jack Fancher combined to contribute four of the six goals the Eagles scored on the night. The other two goals for Pella Christian came from Ethan Van Arendonk and Andrew De Vries, as both found the net for the first time this season.

The Eagles improved to 3-5 on the season, and weather pending will look to double their win total from last season against Knoxville on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.


Eagles Boys Track and Field Team Finishes 2nd, Girls 6th at Tulip Time Relays

The Pella Christian boys track and field team finished runner up at the Tulip Time Relays at Pella Thursday night, while the girls squad brought home a sixth-place finish.

Drew Geetings and Cara Veenstra were the lone Eagles to take first in an event, as both won the high jump clearing the bar at 6-00.00 and 5-00.00 respectively. While they only claimed the top spot in both high jumps, Pella Christian showed up all over the leaderboard with 15 top five finishers.

400 meters: Danny Andringa – 2nd Place – 53.13; 800 meters: Ryan Natelborg – 2nd Place – 2:10.67; Discus: Trevor Veenstra – 2nd Place – 128-07; Shot Put: Trevor Veenstra – 2nd Place – 48-07.50; Long Jump: Luke Nikkel – 2nd Place – 20-00.00; 4×100 Relay: Drew Geetings/Luke Nikkel/Danny Andringa/Peyton Ritzert – 2nd Place – 45.22; High Jump: Landon Fransman – 3rd Place – 5-10.00; 100 meters: Luke Nikkel – 3rd Place – 11.86; 200 meters: Danny Andringa – 3rd Place – 24.10; 400 meter hurdles: Peyton Ritzert – 3rd Place – 58.83; 800 sprint medley relay: Drew Geetings/Noah Nunnikhoven/Luke Nikkel/Peyton Ritzert – 3rd Place – 1:40.60.

Top five finishers for the girls included:

200 meters: Amelia Boender – 2nd Place – 28.21; 800 sprint medley relay: Ellison Ritzert/Faith Kacmarynski/Karlie Anderson/Amelia Boender – 2nd Place – 1:58.32; 400 meters: Anna DeBoef – 4th Place – 1:06.55; 4×200 Relay: Ellison Ritzert/Faith Kacmarynski/Cara Veenstra/Amelia Boender – 5th Place – 1:57.00.

Pella Christian’s track and field teams next compete on Tuesday at the Little Hawkeye Conference meets, but a few Eagles will be in action at the Drake Relays this weekend. Levi Schelhaas will run in heat 2 of the 400-meter dash tonight at 5:20 p.m. and the 4×100 meter relay team of Drew Geetings, Luke Nikkel, Daniel Andringa, and Schelhaas run Saturday in heat 9 at 9:45 am. Also competing at the Drake Relays this weekend will be Pella Christian alumni Blake Veenstra. He will be throwing the discus at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
