The Knoxville Girls Soccer Squad fell in heart wrenching fashion to Centerville on Wednesday night in the first round of the class 1A regional on penalty kicks 4-3. The match went scoreless through 80:00 of regulation play and 20:00 of overtime with both teams having several chances to score in regulation or win in overtime. Knoxville and Centerville traded penalty kicks on the first three players with the score tied at three after the first five players. However after two Knoxville misses, Centerville got the winner. Charlye Willis, Hannah Linsley and Taylor Jones scored penalty goals for Knoxville. Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports all week he drove home that Centerville was capable of winning the match.
Ritchhart: “You play for 100 minutes and we had plenty of opportunities to score. I told them in the scouting report they were capable of beating us and they did it.”
Knoxville finishes the season at 8-8. In Oskaloosa at Edmundson Golf Course, the Knoxville Girls Golf Squad finished 9th overall and Faith Roozeboom was three shots from making the state meet as an individual. Coach Barry Smith told KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a unique season with weather concerns for the most part, but he added the girls improved throughout.
