The Pella Christian girls soccer team traveled to #15 ranked Vinton Shellsburg Tuesday night for a spot in the Regional Finals and claimed a 3-1 victory.

In the 17th minute the Eagles took the early lead on one of their 7 corner kicks when Dani Roose finished off a free ball in the box for only her second goal of the season. The Vikettes leading scorer Grace Sutton responded just 90 seconds by tying the match. The tie wouldn’t last long as just three minutes later Marina DeCampos rebounded a Joslyn Terpstra blocked shot to net her seventh goal of the year and put the Eagles up 2-1. After a handball in the box Lydia Zylstra made a key stop on the ensuing penalty kick to pick up one of her nine saves on the night to keep the score 2-1 going into halftime. In the 66th minute, the Eagles would put the match out of reach. Sarah Gritters found an attacking Terpstra, who scored her 17th goal of the season and passed her sister Cailey in the Pella Christian record book’s for goals scored in a career.

The win marks the 3rd time in the last 5 seasons that Pella Christian has reached the door step of heading to State.  The Eagles Regional Final match on Thursday will see them face off against fifth ranked Nevada in a re-match of the 2019 Regional Final. This Thursday’s match between Pella Christian and Nevada is at Nevada High School and begins at 6 p.m.
