The Pella boys soccer team comes into the Class 2A state tournament this week with eyes on a potential run at the school’s 2nd ever state championship.

Pella Head Coach Mark Solomon says they have plenty of talent and are playing some of their best soccer heading into the final eight, which could mean a three-day week and a chance at a title could be in their future. But he also feels the field is very competitive, and all eight teams will have a legitimate chance to hoist the Class 2A trophy.

“A lot of things typically have to come together when you’re in a position like this — you have to, first and foremost, start with that team passion, love, and trust,” he says. “That’s got to be there before the guys take the field, all the time; they can’t be harboring unsure about how things are going to go, they have to go in there confident and for each other.”

The Dutch were Class 2A champions in 2018 and last appeared at state one year ago, falling to ADM in the opening round. Live coverage of Pella boys state tournament soccer begins at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella’s #2 ranked tennis team is at the state team final four today for the 3rd consecutive season. They’ll open against #3 Dubuque Wahlert, and finish against either #1 Cedar Rapids Xavier or #4 Spencer in the finals with a victory in the opener or the 3rd place match if there’s a loss. Joshua Roozeboom and Cashen Thompson both say the team is ready to push for the top spot in the class after placing 2nd the past two seasons.
