Strong pitching carried the Norwalk baseball and softball teams to non-conference victories on Thursday night.
The Warrior baseball team defeated Winterset 9-1 in Norwalk, taking control early with a five-run first inning and improving to 8-5 overall. Tucker Beving improved to 3-0 on the mound, pitching a complete game four-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk.
Offensively, Vinny Mauro and Keefer Saddoris both singled, doubled and scored two runs for Norwalk. Ian Fisher and CJ Davis added two singles apiece with Fisher notching three RBI.
On the softball diamond, Norwalk won a 2-1 pitchers’ duel at Southeast Polk behind Zadie Wadle’s 12 strikeouts in seven innings. The Warriors trailed 1-0 after four innings, then tied the game in the fifth and scored the eventual winning run in the top of the sixth to run their record to 4-1. The host Rams dropped to 3-2.
Taylor Condon and Lauren Black both had run-scoring hits for Norwalk while Nyah Hulbert added a pair of singles.
Norwalk will host Oskaloosa in both baseball and softball tonight. The softball game can be heard live on KNIA3.
