A tightly-contested first half turned into complete control for Lewis Central as the Pella boys soccer team fell in the Class 2A state finals Saturday afternoon, a match heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Titans, as they have all tournament long, started with a quick strike in the 7th minute to put the Dutch behind. But from there, Pella played some of its most complete soccer of the season in the remainder of the first half, putting constant pressure on Lewis Central.

Isaac Semini finished a Teddy Apostolopoulos corner kick in the 31st minute to tie the contest, and Pella missed a few other close opportunities to take a lead before the break. From there, it was total domination by Lewis Central, who kept the possession on their half of the field for the vast majority of the final 40 minutes and scored twice to ice the contest.

Semini, Apostolopoulos, and Logan Solomon were named to the All-Tournament team.

Pella finishes as state runner up for the 2nd time in school history out of seven total state tournament appearances and with a 19-3 record. The Dutch say farewell to nine varsity seniors.
