
Several Tulip City track and field athletes were recognized for their performances on and off the track in 2022.
Seniors Emily McMartin and Blake Meyer earned Academic All-State honors from the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association. Those recognized had a 3.8 or higher GPA and were part of a state qualifying event in 2022. PCM’s Isabelle Hudnut and Kate McClellan were also awardees.
The Pella Shuttle Hurdle Relay of Nolan Clayberg, Reece Thoreson, Luke Fairchild, and Gage Huyser earned Elite All-State honors in 2022 for their 3A-meet record breaking performance in the race on Championship Saturday of the State Track and Field meet. Their time of 59.45 was 2nd fastest among all classes and earned the group a 3A state title.
Pella Christian’s Levi Schelhaas was an Elite All-State recipient for the second consecutive season, as his 400 meter dash (48.94) was second quickest among all classes and in Class 2A.
Pella’s 4×400 relay, Karl Miller (400 meters), Huyser (400 meter hurdles), and the Eagles’ sprint medley relay all earned All-State honors in their respective classes for top two finishes.
