It was completely different fortunes on Panther Drive on Monday as the Knoxville baseball Squad took home a dominant 12-4 victory over Chariton and the class 4A #10 Knoxville Softball Squad was unable to get going until late in a 5-3 loss to the Chargers. On the baseball diamond, the Panthers jumped on top 9-0 by the 4th inning and coasted to the win. Beau Leisure got the win going five complete allowing three hits two walks and ten strikeouts. The Panthers hit four homeruns, one each by Leisure, Trenton Kingery, Koby Higginbotham and Niko Lacona. Panther second baseman Dakota Ramsey told KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a good start to a big week for Knoxville.
Ramsey: “Definitely a good way to get the week started, few conference games and a big week for us, just a good way to get it started.”
Knoxville is now 10-8 and 5-3 in the South Central Conference. Meanwhile on the other side of Panther Drive, the softball squad gave up three runs in the third inning and that set the tone for the night. The Panthers were able to claw back in it with three runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at three, but the Chargers scored two more and got the final out with bases loaded. Ciara Heffron started the game for the Panthers going three innings and striking out three, Ashlyn Finarty went the final four innings. Knoxville is now 8-5 and 2-2 in the South Central Conference. Baseball hits the road to Bondurant-Farrar tonight while Knoxville stays home to welcome Pella in the Red Rock Rivalry. You can hear that game live on KNIA and KRLS starting at 7:00pm.
