With most of the federal pandemic relief gone and significantly increased prices in grocery stores and at the gas pump, the Pella Community Food Shelf has seen higher demand for their assistance. Executive Director Melissa Zula says they are seeing dozens of more families per week than they were this winter, and the increase has come from their typical seasonal increase in the summer and from the higher cost of living. Zula encourages anyone who is able to make donations of supplies and funds to help offset the increased demand. The Pella Community Food Shelf is open on Tuesday mornings and evenings at The Well on Oskaloosa Street for anyone in need of assistance. Donations can be made by dropping off a check at the Pella Food Shelf or on their Venmo page.
