The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors voted to leave a 28E Agreement forming the South Central Regional Airport Agency this morning following an Iowa Supreme Court ruling last week that allowed the county to leave the contract, finding several aspects of the deal were unconstitutional under Iowa Code.

The board voted unanimously to leave the agreement after attempting to leave in 2017, but at the time, being unable to do so as the 28E Agreement required both the Cities of Pella and Oskaloosa to agree to the move — that is no longer required following the Iowa Supreme Court’s ruling. The SCRAA met in closed session Tuesday, but no action was taken, and their next scheduled meeting is on July 26th at 6:00 p.m.

The SCRAA has purchased several acres of land and the Federal Aviation Administration has spent just over $1 million in a grant to fund the purchase of land, with a local match coming from the SCRAA.
