Dylan Schrader’s 27 yard field goal with 32 seconds remaining put Knoxville on top and then the Panthers had to sweat out a missed 47 yarder by Newton as time expired to give Knoxville a come-from-behind 24-23 win over the Cardinals last night. The Panthers scored on the first drive of the game on a Bryant McWilliams eight yard run. However Newton would score the next 17 points to take a 17-7 halftime lead, but Knoxville would outscore the Cardinals 17-6 in the second half to get the win. Schrader scampered 62 yards to get Knoxville to within three midway through the third quarter. After another Newton touchdown that made it 23-14, Knoxville would score ten unanswered points first on a Luke Moore five yard score from McWilliams, then Schrader’s three to put Knoxville on top for good. After the game, Coach Troy Rider said this was a must win and a big win. Schrader carried 17 times for 151 yards and a score, Bryant McWilliams threw for 117 yards, a score and no interceptions, and Ryan Douglas led a balanced receiving corps with 37 yards on two catches. Knoxville is now 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in the district. The Panthers turn their attention to Saydel next Friday.
