The Knoxville Fire Department at the most recent city council meeting presented a request to sell one of its units and to list another for sale. Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the request.
“So what we are doing is we have a 1998 engine that needs to be replaced and instead of just replacing the one engine and having to replace the rescue later on, what we are planning on doing is to replace two apparatus with one apparatus. The apparatus is called a wet rescue which is a rescue truck that also has a pump and water and can be used as an engine or a rescue with our specialized rescue equipment. With this plan instead of maintaining two apparatuses, we are moving down to one.”
The council approved the request to sell a unit to the Mingo Fire Department and to list a second unit for sale. With the funds from the sale of those two units the department would then purchase a wet rescue to replace the sold units.
