The biggest priority for new Indianola City Manager Ben Reeves is to hire a chief for the Indianola Police Department, which has been run by IPD Captain Sher in an interim post since the retirement of Chief Dave Button in July of 2021. Reeves tells KNIA News the council wanted him to be able to make the decision, and he wanted to do it the right way and learn more about the inner workings of the department before making a decision.
“My very first day the council placed a priority on my shoulders to hire a police chief. And I thought to myself that I’m the least qualified person right now, I don’t know anything about the current structure of the department. Although I want to get to know each city employee and get to know them personally and create a good working relationship, my focus has been on the police department. I’ve gone on a ride along or had office visits with every member of the department as of this week, and it’s been great getting to know them all. It’s their house, and I want to make sure we are making decisions to support them.”
