We continue to spotlight our small schools this week and the best sports moments of the academic year. This week we have Melcher-Dallas in the spotlight, and next week will be Twin Cedars. The #4 moment for the Saints happened on January 22nd, and just like yesterday’s #5 moment, it involves another confrontation with arch rival Twin Cedars. It was the first round of the Bluegrass Conference Boys Basketball Tournament, and the two rivals just happened to draw each other. It was a classic that the Saints pulled out 60-59 in overtime while being short handed due to an injury to Owen Suntken. The game went back and forth with the Sabers getting a tip in at the buzzer to force overtime. But the Saints were able to pull it out and advance to the second round of the BGC Tournament. Three Saints were in double figures led by Chase Ripperger’s 27 points. Two Melcher-Dallas players had double digit rebounds with Logan Godfrey getting 13 and Noah Graces grabbing ten. The Saints however lost in the next round of the conference tournament and ultimately finished 4-18 on the season.
