spronk-triple-vs-albia

The #9 spot on our countdown of the top sports moments from this past year at Pella Christian comes from the baseball team avenging an early season loss to Albia in the Class 2A first round district game on July 2nd with a 10-0 victory in five innings.

After a scoreless first inning, the Eagles took control of the game in the second frame. After scoring twice in top of the second and once in the third inning, Pella Christian blew the game wide open with a five run fourth inning that saw ten hitters come to the plate. The Eagles tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning before closing out the Blue Demons in the bottom of the frame to grab the win via the run-rule. Pitcher Bennett Spronk had a phenomenal day for Pella Christian, notching the win after throwing 4 ⅔ innings of no-hit baseball with six strikeouts. In addition to his great pitching effort, Spronk also went 2-3 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs.

Eagles Head Coach Braden Shull said it was great to see his squad execute to the level he knew they were capable.

“It just feels good to get to that huddle and only have one or two things that we need to improve on. It feels really good to look them in the eyes and say you did it, you executed, great job.”

With the win, Pella Chrsitian advanced to take on Davis County in the Class 2A District 7 Quarterfinal and dropped a heartbreaker 1-0.
