central-baseball-vs-uw-superior

Claiming the #6 spot on our list of the top 10 sports moments at Central College over the past year, the Casey Klunder Era of Dutch Baseball got off to a great start with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Wisconsin-Superior at U.S Bank Stadium – home the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. The Dutch won the opener 9-3 and finished off the sweep with a 5-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Trailing 3-2 entering the final frame of the scheduled seven-inning opening game, Central connected for four hits and took advantage of three walks, three wild pitches and two fielding errors by the Yellow Jackets to string together seven runs. Lucas Farren was 3-for-4 and scored twice. Logan McCoy and Colton DeRocher each had two hits. DeRocher drove in four runs. Landon Vander Leest picked up the win in relief of starter Marcus Wenzel. Vander Leest pitched the last three innings, striking out five and walking one on 41 pitches.

Game two’s winning pitcher was Declan O’Hare, who struck out four and yielded no runs in three innings. Kurby Vowels secured the save. Garrett Finley was 3-for-3 at the plate in the nightcap, driving in one run. McCoy had two hits and two RBI.
