The #7 moment for Knoxville during this school year on the athletic field happened on April 28th, when Ashlyn Finarty was able to qualify for the Drake Relays in the shot put and place 8th with a toss of 39 feet 1.5 inches. Finarty dominated most of the track meets during the regular season and was able to also clinch a spot at the state meet, more on that later in our countdown. Finarty credits throws coach Doug Bacon for adjusting her form and that was a big help in getting the Drake Relays qualification.
Finarty: “He’s helped a really good amount. I’ve gone from throwing 37 last year to throwing 39 this year and it was all on form. He’s given me the pieces to improve my form that I wasn’t comfortable with until now.”
Finarty will return next school year to try for another Drake Relays appearance and state meet berth.
