Most of the state is under a heat advisory.

Judi Van Hulzen, a registered nurse with Marion County Public Health, explains what a heat advisory is. “A heat advisory just means that temperatures of at least 100 degrees fahrenheit or heat index value of 105 degrees are expected  generally for the next 24 hours.”

A few of the symptoms of extreme heat include muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, weakness, headache, dizziness and passing out.

Van Hulzen tells KNIA-KRLS News where cooling centers in Marion County can be found during the heat wave.

In Melcher Dallas, go to the library, in Bussey, City Hall, in Knoxville, the Well encourages people who wish to beat the heat to stop by. In Pleasantville and Pella, call the police departments for locations of cooling centers.

There is currently no overnight sheltering in Marion County.
