While Twin Cedars suited up 23 players for Saturday’s football season opener it was the iron ten from Murray that dominated from start to finish defeating the Sabers 62-6 in a Week Zero opener postponed a day due to weather. The Mustangs dressed just ten players but it was more than enough to dominate Twin Cedars from the start scoring the game’s first 26 points before the Sabers would hit the scoreboard. The Sabers only score was a 44 yard pass from Dallas Smith to Kasey Clark in the 2nd quarter, but Murray shut the Sabers down from there. Coach Cam Parker told KNIA/KRLS Sports his team needs to avoid mistakes that hurt them on Saturday.

Parker: “We had a lot of opportunities and we just failed to take advantage, we had fumbles and didn’t make first downs when needed against a really good team, their quarterback was a man amongst boys, and we just have to take advantage of the chances we get from now forward.”

Smith was 6/19 for 97 yards with a touchdown and interception, he also led the Sabers in rushing with 43 yards on nine carries. Clark had 70 yards on two receptions including the only score in the 2nd quarter. Twin Cedars is 0-1 and will play Tri-County on Friday.
