Norwalk cross country boys win Ankeny Centennial titles
The Norwalk boys cross country team opened the season Thursday by winning both divisions of the Ankeny Centennial Invitational at DMACC.
The Warriors won the 11th-12th grade division by a slim 52-53 margin over Ankeny with six teams competing. Only two seconds separated the top three finishers as Ankeny’s Levi Hill took first in 15:50.79, followed by Norwalk’s Donovan Card in 15:51.69 and Jack Every of Dallas Center-Grimes in 15:52.83.
Jack Brown placed sixth for Norwalk in 16:03 and Noah Buhrow was eighth in 16:13.
The Warrior boys won the 9th-10th grade division with a score of 30, led by Henry Groos in second place, Tony Anania in third and Teegan Kralik sixth. Groos and Anania clocked times of 16:30 and 16:31, respectively.
The Norwalk girls finished fifth out of five teams in both divisions Thursday with scores of 125 and 124. The Warriors’ top placers at the 11th-12th grade level were Breelie Mauro (13th), Brooke Seeley (25th) and Sara Beckwith (26th). Mauro’s time was 21:21. Pearl Brown and Maya Butler both placed in the top 20 of the 9th-10th grade division.
Warrior volleyball team goes 2-1 at Southeast Polk Quad
The Norwalk volleyball team won two out of three matches at the Southeast Polk Quad on Thursday, improving their early-season record to 3-1 overall.
The Warriors outlasted the host Rams 2-1 in the opening match, winning 25-14, 20-25, 15-10. They beat Des Moines Lincoln 25-11, 25-15, then lost to Class 4A 14th-ranked Indianola by scores of 21-25, 17-25.
Norwalk will return to action Tuesday, August 30, for a Little Hawkeye Conference opening game at home vs. Pella.
