An Indianola man was found guilty in a vehicular homicide case stemming from an incident in 2021, as 33-year-old Steven Clark was convicted in the death of 53-year-old John Schmidt in a road rage incident in 2021.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Steven Elmer Clark of Indianola and 53-year-old John Schmidt of Pleasantville were traveling southbound on the Hwy 65 bypass in a road rage incident involving speeds higher than 100mph and swerving at each other, and according to witnesses, Clark’s truck veered from the left lane, behind Schmidt, into the right lane, then swerved back and connected with the rear quarter of Schmidt’s car, sending the smaller sedan careening through the median and into the path of oncoming northbound traffic.

Clark was charged with Homicide by Vehicle – Reckless Driving, and Homicide by Vehicle – Drag Racing.
