Pella Volleyball Team 1-2 at Southeast Polk Tournament
The Dutch volleyball team tried to navigate a difficult field at the Southeast Polk Tournament Saturday, going 1-2 overall. Pella fell to the host Rams 0-2 (6-21, 18-21) and defeated Marshalltown (21-12, 21-11) in the morning competition, before dropping the opening round of bracket play to #5 in Class 5A Ankeny Centennial 0-2 (7-25, 14-25). The Dutch volleyball team is 6-6 overall and travels to Oskaloosa Tuesday.

Ballard Invitational Offers Potential State Cross Country Preview

Pella’s top five ranked cross country teams are in a field of Class 3A’s best Monday at the Ballard Invitational. Head Coach Doug Cutler says the meet will race a lot like the state tournament would, with a loaded group of teams competing.

In total, ten ranked boys teams — seven from Class 3A, as well as the defending 3A champions DCG (now in 4A), #2 in 2A Des Moines Christian, and #16 in 1A Madrid will fill out that race, while the girls race features four of the top five teams in 3A.

NCMP Aquagirls Fell Last Week, Despite Strong Performance Against Ankeny

The NCMP Aquagirls dropped their first meet of the fall season against the deep and talented Ankeny swimmers last Thursday 110-73. The competition for the girls from Pella, Colfax, and Newton was the combination of Ankeny and Centennial.

Dutch Freshman Evelyn Munk swam a personal best time in the 200 freestyle to place 5th (2:16.61) and won the JV 100 Yard Freestyle (1:00.91). Maylei Ruggles was on the winning 200 yard medley relay (29.33 second split on 1:57.15 relay) and placed 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.46). Ellie Wogen and Emily Vander Molen were part of the winning JV meet, with Vander Molen swimming a personal best time in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.62 – 2nd).
