After rolling through the non-district season with a 3-0 record and appearances in several state polls, the #6 (BcMoore) in 1A Pella Christian football team is primed for a deep run for a District 6 championship as Van Buren comes to town to begin league competition tonight.

The Eagles expanded their passing attack last week against PCM to add to their already dominant ground game, which has the most rushing yards (1213) and scores (18) of any Class 1A team heading into district play. The Warriors were supposed to come to Eagle Lane last year, but roster limitations forced them to forfeit, granting P.C. an extra home game to begin what could be a regular season title run in 2022.

Van Buren is 2-1 in non-district action, dominating Louisa-Muscatine last week after closer games with Davis County (26-14 loss) and Central Lee (22-20 win). The Warriors’ Anthony Duncan ranks 9th in Class 1A in all-purpose yards (494), sharing the same list as Eagles Benny Schirz (545) and Isaac Kacmarynski (490).

Coverage of the Pella Christian vs. Van Buren district football opener begins at 6:30 this evening on the KRLS2 stream and Pella Christian High School YouTube channel.
