Head Coach Joe Steinkamp has added a pair of assistants to his Central College men’s basketball coaching staff.

Jacob Bennett will serve as the junior varsity coach. An Iowa State University graduate, Bennett served as the ninth-grade coach at Newton High School for the past two seasons. He also is a 5th grade social studies teacher in Newton.

Also assisting will be Brian Simpson, who is vice president for business development at Precision Pulley and Idler (PPI) in Pella. A Maysville, Kentucky native, Simpson played two seasons at Troy University (Ala.) and was part of a squad that finished second in the NCAA Division II Championship in 1993. He spent one season as a graduate assistant coach there.

Steinkamp is in his first season as Central’s head men’s basketball coach after spending five years as head women’s basketball coach and 10 seasons as men’s assistant. Conor Riordan is in his first year as the top varsity assistant.

The Dutch open the 2022-23 campaign Nov. 8 at Waldorf College in Forest City.
