Confidence continues to grow for the Pella Christian volleyball team coming off their eighth consecutive win in a thrilling five-set win over Little Hawkeye Conference rival Oskaloosa Tuesday night.
Coming off of a sixth-place finish in the conference standings and fifth-place finish in the conference tournament a year ago, the Eagles win Thursday night gave them sole possession of third place in the standings this year. Pella Christian sophomores Emma Eekhoff and Faith Kacmarynski said that winning their eighth straight match was big for the entire team and believe it can lead to bigger things come conference tournament time.
Eekhoff: “We knew we were coming in with a winning streak and beating Osky now it just boosts us so much and it is just so amazing.”
Kacmarynski: “It’s also really nice now that we’re kind of more at the top of our conference. Playing other sports, people always put us at the bottom but now we’ve shown we’re up there and we can play with the bigger schools.”
Looking to keep the momentum rolling into the Greene County Tournament this Saturday, Eekhoff and Kacmarynski believe the team won’t be complacent with their current winning streak.
Eekhoff: “We’re not going to take this as a time to relax. We’re really gonna push through the rest of this week and into Green County and just really work hard and really push each other to work hard throughout practices.”
Kacmarynski: “I think having this victory really makes me and the rest of the team want more, so then coming into Greene County we just want to win because we realize how fun it is.”
